Now’s The Time To Take Your Motorcycle Test

direct_access.jpgNational Motorcycle Week is the annual campaign organised by the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCI) to promote the benefits of motorcycling. The event runs from 13th - 19th July and the key date is Ride to Work Day on the 16th.

This year the theme is ‘Now’s The Time’. This is because the industry aims to encourage more new people into motorcycling before new legislation is introduced later in 2008.

Motorcycling can offer something for people of all ages and abilities, and there are some activities people can take part in without a full motorcycle licence. Enjoying motorcycling doesn’t mean you even have to ride. Watching the professionals when they race can be just as exciting.

During National Motorcycle Week, riders and friends get together to hold events, such as charity fundraisers, BBQs, competitions, picnics, group rides and join in with other activities that are held by dealers and other associations such as BikeSafe.

The industry is saying that now’s the time to Spread the Word to:

  • Get on two wheels
  • Lose the L plates
  • Do something different
  • Take a friend for a ride
  • Watch a race
  • Go off-road
  • Hold an event
  • Ride to Work
Ride to Work Day highlights that motorcycling:
  • Cuts congestion
  • Cuts pollution
  • Cuts journey times
  • Is convenient and flexible
  • Is cost-effective

Events will be taking place across the country and people can find out more about them by logging onto the MCI’s website www.mcia.co.uk and going to the National Motorcycle Week section. An information pack and posters are available online for people who are interested in running an event and a new website has been created for people who want to find out more about getting into motorcycling www.takeyourbiketestnow.com.

The MCI’s Craig Carey-Clinch said;

“National Motorcycle Week is a fun week for celebrating motorcycling and highlighting the many benefits associated with it. Now’s the Time to start doing more on your bike, save money and time as well as make new friends and enjoy more experiences.

“Hobbies, keeping fit, commuting and holidays are just some of the things bikes and scooters can be used for. Anyone who is fed up with traffic congestion or public transport should seriously think about getting on two wheels to get to work.”
