Touratech panniers exclusively for BMW

touratech_panniers.jpgBMW Rider Equipment has a reputation for its innovative technology and cutting-edge design but few BMW owners are aware of the levels of craftsmanship and attention that goes into making aluminium pannier cases for the R 1200 GS Adventure. Each one is individually handcrafted exclusively for BMW by Touratech, a company renowned as the unbridled choice of luggage for adventure riders including Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman.

Claimed by Touratech to be better engineered, better tested and better manufactured than any other, the panniers are the perfect companion for adventure riding.

Hand engineered using aluminium the panniers are both robust and resilient.

Secured at four points, to allow maximum load share, heavy-duty composite and steel mounting brackets secure the panniers to the bike. Steel tube racks are attached to existing frame points on the bike, so there is no need to drill into the frame to install. And an innovative cross-braced rack system ensures that the whole motorcycle subframe carries the load, so in the event of a tip over the panniers will not be crushed inwards damaging the bike.

High-ground clearance further avoids damage to the panniers, but should the box be damaged at all, the square shape of the pannier, and lack of welds on corner bends, mean that any dents can simply be hammered out. In addition strong latches keep cargo secure whilst silicone seals make the boxes watertight, protecting your luggage from the elements.

These pannier seals are so efficient that it has been found that changes in altitudes can cause differences in the air pressure inside the pannier to the outside pressure, which could impact the ease with which the panniers open. BMW Motorrad has since adapted the design of the panniers to remedy this, fitting a labyrinth breather which enables the pressure to equalise, and the panniers to open freely.

The panniers have a capacity of 44 litres on the right-hand side and 38 litres on the left, carrying up to 10kg of luggage. They also feature stainless steel lashing eyelets so that extra items can easily be strapped on top.

Available on the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, the panniers are the perfect accessory for the Enduro model. The new R 1200 GS Adventure was released earlier this year and is available for the first time with a new Enduro version of ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) available as an optional extra, as well as a more powerful engine with improved drive and traction.

Motorcycle Parts, Accessories and Warranty Manager, Dave Alexander, said, “The BMW aluminium pannier cases are designed specifically to fit the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure. It is incredible to think that in this day and age the panniers would be individually hand-made, but this is the level of attention to detail Touratech put into producing these panniers, ensuring a top quality addition to our BMW bike. The ideal accessory for the R 1200 GS Adventure, the adventure riding credentials of the bike are matched only by that of the panniers.”

The price of a pair of aluminium panniers is just under £750, including all mountings and fastenings. For further information, or to find your local BMW Motorrad dealer, please call 0800 777 155 or visit www.bmw-motorrad.co.uk
