Acumen Reduce Prices of HID Headlights

E-mail Print PDF

accumen_hid_headlight.jpgAcumen electronics have reduced the prices of their unique HID lighting systems by a third as part of a summer-long campaign to encourage riders to experience the benefits of high intensity lighting before the dark autumn evenings set in. HID light systems have become a popular modification for high performance cars and Acumen believe that once a core of motorcyclists have experienced the benefits they will become accepted by most riders too.

High Intensity Discharge [HID] systems create a brilliant white light that is similar to sunshine at noon on a summer’s day. By using similar technology to stadium floodlights the 35W bulb delivers twice the light output of normal 60W halogen bulbs.

Unlike conventional motorcycle light bulbs, which use a filament, HID light bulbs are filled with Xenon gas and once ignited by a high voltage charge the gas creates an arc of light. HID bulbs also have a longer lifespan than Halogen items (approx three times) and are less susceptible to damage from vibration and jolts.

Acumen kits contain everything required for a fuss-free fit, including a plug-and-go wiring loom designed specifically for motorcycles, bulb and ‘ballast’ unit. HID systems need a massive electrical charge to start the bulb burning and the ballast converts power from the battery to provide this. Acumen offer a choice of ballast.

The standard item measures 100mm x 75mm x 30mm but for bikes where space is at a premium Acumen produce a Slim Ballast, which measures 85mm x 65mm x 15mm and is housed in a robust and waterproof aluminium case.

Kits are available with bulbs to fit most popular types of modern motorcycles, including 9005, H1, H3, H4, H7 and H11. Retail prices start at £99.99 inc. VAT for standard ballast (reduced from £149.99) and £109.99 (down from £175) for the Slim version.

Offer ends 31st August 2008.
